Logoaway
removes TV Logos - Virtualdub User Interface

based on: VirtualDub-Filter “logoaway” by Chris Wojdon - homepage

Used files:

Vdub2RTFx.FEX

V1.01

logoaway v40beta3.zip

original vdubfilter

logoaway_v.xml

V1.0

13.6.2004

Installation:
Save the files into the folder: ..\pinnacle\Studio 9\plugins\rtfx\vdub

The “logoaway filter” allows you to remove TV-Station-Logos from a video.

Expert Installation

  1. download VdubRTFx.FEX and copy it to the directory “...Pinnacle\Studio 9\Plugins\RTFx\vdub”
  2. download the logoaway_filter logoaway v40beta3.zip - you find this and additional 100 filters on the virtualdub-filterlist page. - Open the zip-file and extract the file “logoaway.vdf” into the same directory
  3. Download dummyfilter1.xml and copy it to the directory “...Pinnacle\Studio 9\Plugins\RTFx\vdub”
  4. rename “dummyfilter1.xml” to “logoaway.xml”
  5. open logoaway.xml in Notepad
  6. replace “DummyFilter1” with “Logoaway”. (see picture above)
You may replace the foldername “HL’s VD-Filter” with a foldername you like too
  7. save “logoaway.xml”
  8. open Studio 9 - add a video to the timeline and open the video-effects

You will now see the edit window for the effect. Virtualdub-Filters provide their own dialog for configuration that cannot be displayed directly by Studio. With clicking on the “Edit-Button” (red circle) you open the configuration dialog of the filter.

(Click on the picture to enlarge)

Configure the filter and click “OK”. Now you can preview the effect in Studio 9 preview window.

No crash? Does it still work? Great!!

Unfortunately a preview during editing the dialog box is not possible yet. With some effort it should be possible but the RTFX-Interface is still in beta-phase and this function is not working as intended (or as I expect).

The “logoaway”-filter is a good example for another issue:

The “logoaway”-filter allows, as the name implies, to remove the logo of the TV-station from a video. You can find more details how the filter works and the filter itself on the authors homepage:

http://www.republika.pl/vander74/virtualdub/ladocs301/logoaway.html

or

http://republika.pl/voidon/virtualdub/

As a fast hint: You must specify a border around the logo. “Logo border position -X,Y” define the upper-left corner of the box and “logo border size - Width, Heigth” the width and height of the border. If you click the checkbox “visible border “, you can see the border in the preview. You have to play with the values a little bit until the border is in the right position. Unfortunately you have to click “OK” after every change and to reopen the dialog-box. Leave the other values as they are unless you know what to change.

We would like to get rid of the “Pro7”-logo in this video. After adding the logoaway-filter and checking the “visible borders”-box you will see a small rectangle on the preview screen. While changing the value for the borders you can move the rectangle over the logo. You can see the values I used in the dialog box above.

And this is the result: No logo anymore!!

After the preview is ok we want to render the final video in high resolution. But what is this? The logo is back again.

Here we ran into the issue that Studio 9 has different resolutions for the preview screen and for the final render. In germany for PAL the preview is 360 x 288 and the final DV-Video is 720 x 576. What you have to do is to multiply the X and Y value you found for the preview screen with 2 to get the right position for the final video. This is a little bit tricky but this is the way it is and I do not see a solution for this issue unless I have the source code of the filter and adapt it.

I hope you have fun with the plugin.

Limitations of this version

  • no preview during configuration
  • fast forward and backward not supported
  • correct working of the effect only if the playback starts at the beginning of a scene
  • no support for Alpha-Channel (effect cannot be used on titles)
  • not all virtualdub-internal interfaces realised
  • no support for vitualdub filters using the “last-frame” functionality yet
  • help, preview and sampling-buttons not supported yet
